Injecting Rabbits Subcutaneously

(Protocol summary only for purposes of this preview site)

Subcutaneous injections are easily performed in rabbits. Their skin is loose, allowing for larger volumes of material to be injected. The technique is similar to that used for mice. Volumes should not exceed 5 mL per site unless isotonic fluids are administered. Always aspirate before injection. Injections should not be performed at the neck because a rabbit is usually picked up by the neck during handling.
