About the Editors

Ray Gesteland is Vice President for Research at the University of Utah, where, in the Human Genetics Department, he is studying recoding (reprogrammed genetic decoding). Tom Cech is President of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Professor at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he is studying catalytic RNA, the subject for which he won the Nobel prize in 1989. John Atkins is Research Professor at the University of Utah Department of Human Genetics and the Bioscience Institute at University College Cork, Ireland, where he is studying the use of frameshifting, codon redefinition, and trans-translation in gene expression.
